Lionfish Productions is a boutique production company specializing in documentaries, music videos, corporate videos and commercials. Our directors sport a host of local and international awards and our team is passionate and dedicated to bringing theirs and your vision to life.

Some of our previous clients include Amnesty International, Steps for the Future, Regency, Volvic Juice, Axe, Guinness, White Horse, University of Cape Town, Human Science Resource Centre, Project 90 by 2030, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation. Our services include full production from conception to final product, as well as individual functions such as filming, editing, sound design and facilitation.


Born in Lisbon, Sara Gouveia is an award winning filmmaker and photographer. Her documentary “Mama Goema: The Cape Town Beat in Five Movements" won the audience award for Best Feature Length Documentary Film at the Tri Continental Film Festival 2011 and screened at festivals in Europe, South and North America. Sara’s short film “Scarlet Days” won the Jury Award for Best Film at the 5thInShadow Festival 2013. She has worked as a director, editor and cinematographer in documentaries for various clients and NGOs in South Africa such as Amnesty International, Regency, China Central TV, University of Cape Town, Human Science and Resource Centre, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation and Project 90x2030 and has created a number of music and promotional videos for South African artists. She is currently in production with the feature documentary "The Sound of Masks" in Mozambique, which has received the IDFA Award for most promising documentary at the Durban Film Mart 2014. The project is being supported by the N.F.V.F., the Hot Docs Blue Ice Fund and the IDFA Bertha Fund.
Julia Ramsay is a producer with practical experience in camera and editing. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Cinematography from the South African School of Motion Picture Medium (AFDA). She started her career developing and creating educational and promotional videos for clients such as Distell and Kempinski amongst others. Julia has also created a number of promotional videos and campaigns for Bacardi Legacy, WMD Awareness and The Style Trunk, as well as for various musicians and artists including Shane Cooper and Nicky Schrire. She has since moved into the commercials field doing work for Giant Films and has produced ads for Angola and South Africa.
Michael Klein is a writer, director and producer living and working in Cape Town.

His first stab at directing and producing came with his UCT graduate film, The Bullet, a minimalist suspense film that premiered at the International Student Film Festival in Hollywood, before going on to win ‘Best South African Short Film’ at the Cape Winelands Film Festival along with several other festival selections.

Moving into documentaries after graduating, Michael was the assistant producer on the short documentary, Orbis, which had it’s world premiere at Hot Docs in Toronto. The film artfully examines the cycle of poverty in Durban’s largest township, Umlazi.

After a short stint working production in the South African feature film industry, Michael now freelances as a producer and director of short form content.
Reinette is a young and inspired filmmaker who has managed to merge her love for writing, research and character story telling into her pieces.

Originally hailing from the capital city of Pretoria, she now resides in Cape Town and is involved in both the research and production realm of the industry.

Reinette started off her career working on various musical promos for musicians such as Wrestlerish, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Jack Parow and the Dirty Skirts. She then moved on to the commercials world, working on campaigns for Converse, Benetton and Hyundai. She most recently was announced as a finalist in the Jameson’s Indie Channel Top12 Director’s challenge, where her creative collaboration with musician Card On Spokes was considered for a creative grant. She has also recently won a Mofilm prize, for a Cannes Lions campaign for Volvic Juicy in France.

When she is not writing treatments for directors- she is pursuing her love for creative story telling. New to the world of directing- Reinette is building up her reel in short and long form content. With 8 years of commercials and service industry experience behind her, her drive and passion is a force to be reckoned with.

Shane Cooper is a bassist, composer and producer based in Cape Town, South Africa. He has various awards including the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz in South Africa in 2013 and South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Jazz Album 2014 for his debut jazz album Oscillations.

As a composer for film Shane has written music for the award-winning documentaries Forerunners by Simon Wood, Port Nolloth: Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Felix Seuffert, and several others.He also co-composed music for the film Visa Vie by Elan Gamaker which won a SAFTA in 2011 for Best Feature Film Music Composition. In 2016 the new film Noem My Skollie will be released, which he co-produced with Kyle Shepherd. His music has been licensed for videos ranging from clothing brands such as Twobop to videos for the Human Sciences Research Council.
